How To Get More Light Into Your Home

July 4th, 2016 in All About Blinds
This might sound counter-intuitive coming from a company that sells blinds but letting light into your home is really a good thing!

As well as all that science-y stuff about serotonin and vitamin D making you feel extra chipper, a good source of natural light means less money spent on electricity and can help make your whole room feel way more spacious.

So, here’s how to get more sunshine in your life:

Maximise Window Space

When you’ve got your curtains or blinds open, let in as much light as humanly possible. A couple of great ways to do this are:

  1. Making sure your curtain pole is wider than your window so your drapes don’t obscure the sides of the glass show.
  2. Choosing a blind with a small ‘stack’ so that when it’s raised it doesn’t cover much window. Our DuoLight and DuoShade blinds are, amongst other great features, masters of the small stack. (They’re also currently 20% off).

Reflection & Deflection

Light is like a horse with blinkers, it only goes in straight lines. Luckily us clever humans can redirect the light and use it to our advantage. A strategically placed mirror is great for reflecting light and making the whole space brighter. However, when the glare is too much, louvres are a great way to deflect the light where you want it to go and lower the intensity. Our shutter blinds have perfectly sized louvres to let you do just that and what do you know, they’re 50% off right now. How convenient!

Best of Both Worlds

Another great way to make the most of the light is to use a sheer fabric. That way the light will gently filter through but the heat and glare will be reduced so you can kick back and relax. Plus you get the added bonus of privacy thrown in too. We’ve got all sorts of sheer fabrics with some fun features to help you get the best out of the sunlight. Screen Shot 2016-07-04 at 09.44.10

Of course, beneficial as the sun can be, if you feel like you get plenty of sunshine in your life and don’t want it to intrude on your home life, you could always go the other way and pick up a FREE blackout lining on one of our roman blinds, roller blinds and curtains. Never let it be said we don’t cater to all tastes!
