On Thursday 1st December, Pantone announced its 2023 colour of the year: Viva Magenta. Reminiscent of blush, described by the brand as “an unconventional red for an unconventional time”, Viva Magenta 18-1750 promotes joy and vigour while reflecting the “rebellious” spirit of the time. Although intimidating at first, the Pantone colour of 2023 turns out to be pretty easy to slip into any decor without fear. Here’s how you can do it.
Viva Magenta Cushions
Before you redecorate your entire home and freeze your renovation, behold. Experts at Pantone want us to be brave and have fun with the colour. “It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy”- says Leatrice Eisman, Pantone executive director. Scattering vibrant cushions around a sofa, bed and chairs sound like a lot of fun!
Viva Magenta Blinds and Curtains
One thing’s clear about Viva Magenta when it comes to interiors – it should make a “beautiful, dramatic, and theatrical statement in the home.” Blinds or curtains in an animated red that instantly standouts and captivates the eye can be a good start to introducing the colour. By taking centre stage, window coverings in this trending hue will make a bold statement. “People have reached a point now where they’re a bit braver with where they might use a touch of colour,” adds Eiseman.
Blending with other colours
Alongside the announcement, Pantone has created a distinct palette, a Magentaverse, helping us approach the colour. These additional shades, light and airy neutrals in tones of grey and green, allow the colour to stand out without feeling overwhelming.
For more than 20 years, Pantone has annually picked a colour of the year. If you feel that this is the one you’d like to introduce in your home, our selection of blinds, curtains and cushions can be a great place to start.
