ToggleHow to Measure for Roller Blinds – Recess Fitting
If you choose to fit your blinds inside the recess, you’ll need to measure the width and height of the recess. Don’t worry about any deductions – we’ll take care of that to ensure a perfect fit.
When measuring for a recess fitting, it’s essential to take three measurements for both the width and drop. Then, compare the measurement at the top of the recess with the smallest measurement you’ve taken. If the difference between those two measurements is less than 25mm, use the top measurement. If it’s not, use the smallest measurement.
Use a metal tape measure – a plastic one can stretch and give you inaccurate measurements.
How to Measure for Roller Blinds – Exact Fitting
If you opt for an “exact fitting,” you’ll need to measure the width and height of the recess, adding a little extra to the top and sides. To minimize light leakage, we recommend that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm on each side. The overlap at the bottom of the blind is a matter of personal choice, but make sure to take into account any obstacles, such as radiators.
Part-tiled recesses
For those with part-tiled recesses or obstructions, such as picture rails or skirting boards, measure at the top of the recess and between the tiles or obstacles. Compare the two measurements, and if the difference is less than 25mm, use the top measurement. If it’s not, use the width between the tiles or obstacles.
It’s also important to remember that the overall width of a Roller Blind, including its brackets, is approximately 35mm wider than the width of the fabric. So when measuring for the width, you can choose to measure for the full bracket-to-bracket width or the width you’d like the fabric to cover.
Measuring for Roller Blinds may seem like a small detail, but it’s crucial for achieving a perfect fit and a seamless look. So take your time, follow our tips, and enjoy your beautiful new blinds!
