We Chatted with Heather from Interior Styling 18
Heather from @interior_styling_18 has been renovating homes for the best part of a decade and has a whopping 118,000 followers on her aspirational Instagram account. We sat down to talk to her about her design journey and the things that have inspired her.
What has been your favourite room to decorate?
I have a real passion and love for designing nursery & playroom interiors. You can totally let your imagination run wild and for me personally, you can be more creative with this type of interior through colour, patterns, themes and textiles, there really is no boundary. I like to create spaces that are relevant in the now but are also adaptable for change in the future. Therefore my little girls bedroom has to be my favourite room, I created an enchanted forest which was fit for a princess.
What’s your favourite room to actually live in?
The kitchen is the heart of the home, it brings people together through their love of food and drink. I created a kitchen that was versatile, practical and stylish in its design. I took massive inspiration when designing my kitchen from the Scandinavians. I love how clean, bold, minimal and striking their design is. They have shown that black, white and grey can actually be warm and inviting if used in the right way.
What has been the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome when decorating your home? Any design disasters?
I am currently renovating my fourth property and thankfully, I haven’t had any major design disasters….yet. I bring all my design elements together by creating mood boards which is an essential component for any room you design. Making sure what you have pictured in your mind actually works. That furniture you absolutely love works with what you currently have in your home. Make sure you create a room that is not dictated by the colour otherwise you will find it difficult to change as your style evolves. It is also important that you acquire samples to help you make the right choices. Blinds2go offer this service which was really helpful when selecting what shade of white I wanted to go for – yes that’s right there really is more than one shade of white.
What are your design inspirations?
I absolutely love pinterest. It is so easy to use and 99% of the time I can usually find what I am looking. I also take inspiration from other home accounts on Instagram. I really believe that social media is a fantastic platform to share and inspire others. Kelly Hoppen is also a massive inspiration to me and she is right when she says that “Designing is about knowing you have that passion”.
Which blinds from our collection have you used and where, and what’s been your experience with them?
I have the made to measure day and night blinds throughout my whole house. They were easy to order, good value for money by cutting out the middle man and I love how they allow the natural light to filter through whilst providing you with privacy. I also love the striking design which can be appreciated from inside and outside the property. I was originally drawn to Blinds2go because they offer a made to measure service whilst in the comfort of your own home. They have a step by step guide on how to measure your windows which I found extremely helpful. They also offer a free sample which is sent out free of charge first class, what more could you ask for. I was impressed with the overall quality of the blind and attention to detail, such as a chrome pull rather than a plastic pull which can look cheap and tacky. Finally, all blinds are child safety approved and come with a 3 year warranty which was important to me and therefore was one of the main reasons I went with Blinds2go.
Any top-tips for your fellow interior fanatics?
If you are looking to have white window coverings in your house always make sure you order some samples before you place your order. As mentioned before there are several shade of white and it is important that you select the colour that is similar to the window frame. Most people don’t know but window frames do discolour over a period of time and whilst to the eye they look white, they do actually turn a creamy colour due to general wear and tear and the discolouring from natural day light. If you select the wrong shade, the window frame will look dirty and will not create the look you was hoping for which could be a costly mistake.
We think you’ll agree Heather’s home looks stunning and of course, we may be biased but we think her blinds are a stunning addition. You can follow more of Heather’s interior journey on her Instagram account and through her blog.
