Hot Off The Press: A Beginner’s Guide to DIY

April 29th, 2016 in All About Blinds

We know how daunting DIY can be for the first-timer, that’s why we try to make all of our guides as easy as possible to follow. That means no super wordy instructions (after all, that’s just plain boring), and plenty of illustrations, because sometimes it’s just hard to visualise something from words.

So this month, we teamed up with HomeStyle to be a part of their Beginner’s Guide to DIY. They know that not everyone has a handy-man (or woman) to hand, so they put together a guide to all those niggly bits to do around the house, and how to do them right.

Let’s skip ahead to lesson 4…

Roller blinds are one of the most popular of the blind types, and we’re not surprised. There’s so much choice! There’s the plain colours, pretty patterns, fully waterproof, blackout, thermal, well you get the picture. But with choice comes the opportunity to be baffled.

When choosing any type of blind, you really need to think about it’s purpose. Is it going in the bathroom? Try one from our Ocean range. One for the bedroom? You’d probably want blackout. Draughty utility? How about a thermal? Somewhere that needs a little jazzing up? Choices rollers have our best patterns, as well as the choice of lining.

Once you’ve found the one, it’s time to order. But wait, even more options!

So what exactly is ‘Recess’ and ‘Exact’ fittings?

Put in it’s most simplest of forms, recess is when it sits within the window frame. And exact is when it’s fitted to the wall outside of the window space. So recess=in the window, exact=out the window. Check out the image above for our guidance on measuring for both.

What if I get it wrong?

Now, we know more than anyone that mistakes can happen for even the most experienced of DIY-ers. We’ve had plenty of messages and emails from husbands needing immediate advice because they’ve measured wrong and don’t want their better half to find out.

So don’t worry if you’re in the same boat. We’ve created guides to altering the size of your blinds, just let us know and we’ll advise you on exactly what to do.

Class dismissed 👏

So clued up on roller blinds? Great! Why not head on over to Blinds 2go now and put your new found knowledge to good use. Check out the roller blinds right here.
