Last week we introduced you the this year’s Decorex International Design show, showing you one of the most prominent trends of the exhibition, velvets. This week we’re back with a trend you’ll go wild for. Animals!
Starting from the live sheep in their pen outside the tent, to textile taxidermy, there was no way of missing this one. So shall we take a walk through the jungle?
Trend 2 : Animal Kingdom
This week we’re taking a walk on the wild side of trends, with all creatures big and small. Heres just a little look at what to expect from the trend, as well as pinterest board full of inspiration for your own home!
Stuffed stuff
Obviously, the Animal Kingdom trend takes inspiration from the real life world. Now there’s two ways in which the trend pays a nod to the real life style; drawings, paintings and designs of the animal in accurate representations, and in of course, taxidermy.
We had thought that the love of taxidermy passed when more animal rights and activists moved in, but according to the show, apparently not. This dog did catch our eye though.
Textile taxidermy
Just as taxidermy has seemed to come back into fashion, there’s also been a rise of faux animal heads. Dubbed textile taxidermy, patchwork was big this year! And so were the animals of the forest and field.
They’re fun and colourful, with a mixture of textures and patterns creative a cosy vibe.
On the quirky side
If having an animal head above the fireplace, or a dog butler by your side is a little too much, quirky pieces such as this bridy side table are a great place to start to bring the animal kingdom into your home instead.
It almost blends into your decor without anyone realising its feet, perfect for eclectic styles or just jazzing up something a bit more plain.
What’s your take on animal kingdom? All of this just a bit too much? Prefer to go simple with a cowhide rug? Or do you go all out and have a room dedicated to your furry friends?
