The new year is most popular time of year for starting to think about doing over the home. But it can be difficult to create an actual plan of action when you have no idea exactly what you want.

Thankfully, the wonderful world wide web is full of great resources for helping us make our ideas a reality. We’ve compiled our top 5, giving you plenty of inspiration to help make 2017 the year of the dream home…

1. Houzz


Houzz is truly all-round site. There’s articles, how-tos, home tours, professionals, products, and an abundance of photos. You can create mood boards, reach out to tradespeople and find in depth information about projects. Best of all, it’s full of industry experts, so if you’ve got a question, you’ll struggle to find a better place to get it answered, properly.

2. Pinterest


If you’re struggling to visualise a space (or trying to convince someone who’s struggling), a quick search on Pinterest will bring back thousands of photos. By collating your favourite pins into boards, it’s much easier to visualise what it actually is that you like and want too. Don’t forget all those handy DIY how-tos and home hacks too!

3. Bloglovin’

The blogging world is big news, and there’s plenty of experts that blog too. Bloglovin’ features lots of blogs in one place, and with their keyword search, you can find articles around a particular topic. Blogs are useful for find in-depth how tos, details about the latest trends, and inspiration from your favourite interior designers.

4. Dulux Visualiser

Wall colour is a mighty battle with great interior design, and sometimes we don’t want to paint an entire room before realising it doesn’t quite work. The Dulux Visualiser App lets you see your room in it’s new colour before even the tester pot hits the wall. It might just push you to be a little more daring with colour too.

5. Instagram


Instagram is a social network, and it’s this social aspect that makes it great when planning some decorating. Whether it’s asking for advice, tips or opinions, or just browsing for inspiration, Instagram has so much to offer. Plus, the new save feature makes it easier to take a second look at the photos that do tickle your fancy. Search hashtags such as #interiorinspiration to get yourself started.

If you’re on a newly built housing estate, you’ll probably find a hashtag for that too, a great way to get to know your neighbours (as well as having a nosey inside their homes).
