Posted by Mark in Web wonders on November 23rd, 2009
As the longest established online blinds company in UK and one of the first in the world we seem to be mentioned on a lot of pages in the world wide web, emphasis on the world. As a result we do get quite a few inquiries from around the globe which we can’t help with. As is the Blinds 2go way we always try to help so today for our Antipodean blinds hunter we have a recommendation.
Blinds on the Net is our goto site whenever we get any questions from down under, they seem to have a great range of blinds targeted at the Australia market and offer a full coverage Australia delivery service. We like them a lot and part of the reason is that the owner used to be a supplier of ours many years ago when he was based in the UK. We were always very happy in our dealings with him and honestly if they can keep us happy you won’t have any problems at all!
So if you are searching for Blinds Australia then do yourself a favour and give Blinds on the Net a try. They also have a specialist site for curtains in Australia too.

Autumn has most definitely arrived, the leaves are everywhere and heating is being switched on all over the country. We spend more time indoors during these colder months so it’s quite nice to give our homes a few new touches. I’ve been having a think and have come up with some easy and purse friendly ways to give your home a cosy autumnal update. Style and value, it’s the Blinds 2go way!
- Add blankets and throws to sofas and beds
- Change cushion covers to warmer textured fabrics
- Buy a new doormat to wipe all those muddy boots on
- Store hats, gloves and scarves in a bag hung off the banister or in a box on the hall floor
- Treat yourself to some new candles in this season’s trend colours
- Update windows with new blinds, perfect for keeping the warmth in and cold out
- Pick pine cones, conkers and acorns, throw them on top of mulch, scatter them in garden pots or throw them into a glass bowl to dress a kitchen table
- And you know what? Nothing beats a draught excluder for stopping the howling gale underneath your door!
Measuring Blinds Made Easy!
Posted by Ian in Blinds, Blinds 2go, Roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Vertical blinds, Wooden blinds on August 13th, 2009
If you are considering installing blinds in your home, at some point you will have to take the measurements. This can appear to be quite a daunting task, especially if you have never done this before. The truth of the matter is that it’s quite easy and there are a couple of tricks to ensure that your blinds are a perfect and professional fit.
There are two ways of taking the measurements depending upon where you would like the blind to sit or how you want the window to be covered, we refer to them as ‘Recess Fitting’ and ‘Exact Fitting’.
Firstly we will look at a blind to sit within a recessed window:-

As you can see here, the window is set into the wall, this is what is referred to as a recessed window. Because the sides of the recess have been plastered, it’s highly likely that the area isn’t quite square. For this reason, the measurements should be taken in a number of places. The width should be measured at the top of the recess, in the middle of the recess and again at the bottom of the recess. It’s the smallest of the three that we will need. The same procedure should be done when measuring the drop, measure this on the left hand side of the recess, in the middle and again on the right hand side. Again, it’s the smallest of the three that we need. The reason why we’re looking for the smallest measurement for both dimensions is so that the blind can be made without a risk of it catching or scraping the recess when it’s operated. Do not make any deductions from the measurements that you have taken, this is something we will do automatically when we come to make the blind.
‘Exact Fitting’; Ordering a blind at a specific size:-

This means of taking measurements has a number of uses as what you are supplying is the actual size that you need the blind to be. This could be a window that sits flush to the wall (i.e. a Victorian sash window or a conservatory window) or it could just be that you do not the blind to sit inside the recess. The thing to remember with this type of measuring is that you will need to account for the brackets and headrail. There are a couple of instances where this can make a big difference:
1) Roller Blinds – The brackets for a roller blind sit at either end of the pole by 35mm overall (approximately) and therefore the width of the fabric is smaller than the width of the blind. If you need a specific width of fabric for your roller blind, measure the width of the area that you want the fabric to cover and then add 35mm to allow for the brackets. This will give you the exact width that you would need to order.
2) Vertical Blinds – The width can be whatever you need but the drop should begin 50mm above the window area and stop 10mm above the window sill or floor. The last thing you want is a vertical blind that touches the surface at the bottom of the fabric, the blind simply doesn’t hang straight.
All other types of blind are straight forward, it’s typical to have the blind overlap the window area by 50mm on each side and at the top and come down to the window sill. However this is only typical and not a hard and fast rule. If you want a bigger blind or a smaller blind it’s absolutely fine, just make sure to allow for the brackets to fit above the window and this is normally 50mm, the exceptions being aluminium venetian blinds and roman blinds where the allowance for the brackets can be as small as 30mm if needed.
Hopefully this makes sense to you, remember that we are always available to advise you on more unusual windows or applications, just call our office or send us an email and we’ll help you as much as possible to ensure you order blinds that are perfect for your home.

Feature wallpaper and window blinds – a perfect combination
Posted by Anna in Blinds, House stuff, Roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Wooden blinds on July 28th, 2009
Feature wallpapers are big news. Decorating a wall in a bold statement wallpaper allows you to create a massive amount of interest in a room with really very little effort. Many of us will tend to decorate the one wall in a statement paper. You can always take a ‘leaf’ from the world of celebrity though. Nicky Hilton uses bright colours and bold patterns to liven up her Los Angeles home. “Great wallpaper can really make a statement.” says the fashion designer, who chose a banana-leaf print for her kitchen.
Personally, all I can say is “whoa!”. One thing is for definite, big fussy curtains would make this decorating scheme even busier. Window treatments can provide a welcoming calm yin, to the yang of a bold patterned wall. I have found some great wallpapers below and have teamed each with a couple of complimentary window blinds. All of the papers are in current ranges so if you see something you like then grab it now. And of course, don’t forget the blinds!
I love the freshness of this paper, it would be perfect in a sun drenched room. The green of the leaf has been highlighted through the roman blind, while the metal venetian tones in with the wallpaper’s off white background.
Possibly my favourite paper, so retro and stylish. The beige roller blind perfectly matches the background colour. For a stronger look, use a richly coloured blind, the deep colour of the roman blind makes as much impact as the wallpaper itself.
This wallpaper by Harlequin Harris gives a luxurious feel with its gold pattern. Here I have teamed a soft to the touch wicker roman blind to complement the sumptuous feel. Alternatively the gold venetian blind gives a cleaner look but teams with the pattern perfectly.
One for dog lovers everywhere! The obvious choice is of course a black or a white blind. I’ve used a black hardwood venetian blind and a simple white roller blind. Another idea would be to add a bold splash of colour, maybe using a calming green or a dark red.
This purple and red infused paper has true impact. I have chosen a light lilac venetian blind plus a merlot coloured roman. Other possibilities could be to highlight the dark brown stem of the flower or contrast completely with a white blind. We also have a popular dark purple camelot roller blind.
Definitely a fun wallpaper. The wooden venetian adds a touch of sophistication while the blue roller blinds continues the fun, fun, fun theme.
Some final thoughts….
- Most wallpaper companies design a collection of papers that work with one another, pick papers from the same collection for guaranteed success.
- Try mixing plain and patterned wallpaper.
- Be daring with stripes, try hanging paper horizontally as well as vertically.
- Leafy woodland prints are big for 2009. (Nicky Hilton was right!)
- Textured wallpapers are making a return, perfect for bedroom glamour.
- Why not consider a jewel box room? A room with wall to wall bold paper.

Feature chairs transform a room
Posted by Anna in House stuff on July 21st, 2009
Feature chairs make an amazing impact. They can transform an otherwise neutral room into something of a talking point. You can’t underestimate their ’sit-factor’ too! I have a traditional wicker chair in the corner of my kitchen. I’ve updated it with a couple of cushions (a very very fluffy one plus a Chinese silk), placed a large vase of ‘twiggy things’ next to it. Voila! My very own corner of peace and tranquility. Please enjoy these lovely images.
We’re ‘designery’ types at Blinds 2go. Just check out the feature chairs in one of our meeting rooms. The chairs are an amazing luminescent purple, extremely comfortable to sit and are also rockable. What more could you ask for really? You can buy the same chairs from bluesuntree. The meeting room is a favourite place of ours to discuss all things blinds. We have bespoke art on the walls (complete with blinds 2go logo) plus a bespoke meeting table. The table is a unique design made for us by Paul at Quad.
We also have a great photography studio where our resident photographer and stylist Gwen, spends hours putting up blinds and accessorising them. She’s quite partial to a feature chair too! Just have a look …

Pantone colour trend products
Posted by Anna in Blinds, House stuff, Roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Wooden blinds on July 20th, 2009
The Pantone colour system was developed in the 1960’s and is a way for designers, manufacturers and clients to specify exactly the colour they desire using a unique coding system. As the ‘owners’ of colour, Pantone are at the forefront of influencing what colours are hot (or not) in the world of fashion and style. At Blinds 2go we are led by such influences and our design team ensures that we have the blinds to complement all the current trends.
Pantone trend colours for 2009
The Pantone brand is iconic and characterised by a broad sweep of colour contrasting with a bright white strip showing the Pantone number. As you have now come to expect I have searched the web for the very best examples of Pantone brand products. (I don’t want to disappoint so I’ve thrown in some blinds too!)
