2 – Clean like a professional

Chambermaids are renowned for their speed and efficiency so you may as well learn from the best. The chambermaids at the Savoy Hotel in London probably know a thing or two about getting thinks bright and shiny! They are taught to stand at the doorway and decide what needs doing. They then follow these rules, left to right, top to bottom and back to front. Simple!

3 – Glamorous cleaning every time

For those hard to reach places, the tops of cupboards and doors, light fittings and so on why not try a feather duster? Much more fun than wobbling precariously on a chair to reach! One great tip is to spray the duster lightly with water so that the dust ‘sticks’ to the feathers rather than wafting back into the room.

4 – Less clutter = quicker cleaning!

Maybe this William Morris quote will give you the touch of ruthlessness you need when undertaking a little de-cluttering!

5 – Sparkling BBQs

Earlier in the week we tempted you with some BBQ gadgetry, now it’s probably time to think about cleaning the thing! As with most things in life preparation is the key and wiping the grill with oil before cooking will mean that less bits of food will stick and need cleaning.

When all the cooking is done and the grill is still warm either use a wire brush to brush the grill or scrunch up some aluminium foil and scrub off the burnt bits. If you’ve had a feast fit for a King you may need to then soak the grill in warm soapy water.

6 – Treat your terracotta pot to some yogurt

A great antidote to all that cleaning is to make something look old and weathered! Terracotta pots in the garden often look better if they are a bit aged rather than pristine and clean.

To give pots a lovely ‘patina’ simply soak the pot in water for 15 minutes and then slather the pot in plain yogurt, the more uneven you paint the yogurt on the more natural the result. Leave the pot in the shade for about a month and voilà a fantastic looking ‘old’ pot.

7 – All aboard the big ship ‘Clean’!

Get everyone involved! It’s probably quite unlikely that you’re the sole maker of the mess and creator of the dirt…so why not get all the culprits involved? Particularly any chaos creating kids that you may have.

Tasks kids will love include anything involving a pressure washer, things they can ‘spray and wipe’ and definitely blasting round with the hoover. Tasks to avoid are anything involving vague notions of ‘tidying’!

8 – An organised cleaner is a quicker cleaner!

Not that we’re encouraging you to put off the big spring clean ….. but have you considered how much quicker you would be if you had a handy box to carry round all the cleaning equipment? Just a thought! We quite like this one….
