There’s many reasons why white gloss kitchens remain so popular. White kitchens give a look that never tires, they’re easy to accessorise and it’s incredibly simple to add your own style for an individual look that’s all yours.

Ladybirds LOVE my home and return each and every year. On a warm summers day the front of the house will be festooned with them and we have on occasion had to go inside as there is literally a blizzard of them in the garden. (In large numbers they really can be quite intimidating!)
In their honour here’s nine ladybird things for the ladybug lovers out there. And just so you don’t think I’ve entirely lost the plot there’s some red blinds for your delight, no spotty ones I’m afraid though.
As promised!

Take one blind :: English Oak Hardwood blind
Posted by Anna in Bedroom, Blinds, House stuff, Wooden blinds, kitchen on March 9th, 2010
Take one blind …
This is our most popular wooden blind bar none, English Oak is the perfect mid coloured wood, not too light and not too dark. The quality solid timber slats are coated in several coats of UV protecting wood stain for a beautiful and long lasting colour.
Wooden blinds are suitable throughout the home, the wood brings with it a natural warmth while the smooth operation makes altering the slats from open to closed, or raising and lowering, simple and effortless.
We think it’s the versatility of English Oak that has made it such a popular choice, it will complement almost any scheme. We were hard pushed to limit ourselves to just three looks. Incidentally it looks great in my kitchen of white gloss units and sage green glass splash back!

Take one blind :: Urban Blue roller blind (and go a bit retro)
Posted by Anna in House stuff, Roller blinds, Take one blind, kitchen on February 9th, 2010
Just what is retro? Well for a start it’s our Urban Blue roller blind but according to the Oxford Dictionary it’s also anything “imitative of a style from the recent past”. Retro comes from the French rétrograde, i.e. ‘retrograde’.
Lesson over and down to this roller blind, Urban Blue sports a series of coloured oblong shapes that contrast nicely with the soft white background. Most of the shapes are pale duck egg blue, but there are some that sparkle in silver and some that are a very dark navy blue. The rectangular shapes are reminiscent of furniture from the 50’s and 60’s which was sleek and long, hence the retro.
This blind will look great in any modern room, particularly one that’s decorated in cool silver, grey or blue. Kitchens and bathrooms will suit the look but equally in a minimalist living area Urban Blue could be the perfect finishing touch.
If you’re inspired by the retro leanings of this blind then look out for formica, g plan furniture, vinyl and of course Miss Wong Tretchikoff. For retro buys and ideas try Vintage Retro, Retro Decades, and Retro to go. Here’s some images to inspire but hopefully not frighten you!

Window blinds for traditional style country kitchens
Posted by Anna in Blinds, Roller blinds, Wooden blinds, kitchen on January 21st, 2010
Country kitchens, think Aga ovens, Belfast sinks, scrubbed pine tables and worn terracotta flooring. But please, please, please forget dusty flowery curtains with swags!
It’s still easy to create a soft and welcoming country look but using a more modern and contemporary window dressing than curtains, and we think blinds are the way forward. We’ve selected some blinds below that we think will look great in a traditional style kitchen.
Wooden Blinds
In so many different wood colours there will be a blind to co-ordinate, or contrast with your kitchen units. These blinds will also give you excellent light control in a sunny kitchen.
Roller Blinds
Roller blinds keep it nice and simple at the window so are ideal to balance out the busyness of knick knacks and open shelving. In so many colours you will be able to co-ordinate your blinds with other soft furnishings such as chair covers, or accessories such as tea towels.
Roman Blinds
These blinds retain all the warmth of fabric but give a contemporary and up to date look. Roman blinds look equally good drawn up or down.
For the full range of blinds just click here for wooden blinds, roller blinds or roman blinds. Use our next day sample service and you can get matching swatches or slats with your kitchen in the blink of an eye.
