6 Mistakes You’re Making With Window Blinds

February 16th, 2016 in All About Blinds

Choosing the right blinds for a home is a difficult choice for most of us. There’s so much to choose from, and it’s not something you’ll be changing often, so getting it right first time is a priority.

So to help, we’ve found the 6 common mistakes people are making with their blinds, and how to avoid them, helping you to pick out the perfect one first time around.

1. It’s the wrong size

It can be tempting to head into your local hardware and home furnishing store and pick up a ready-made blind which you cut down yourself, but don’t! Most of us aren’t that skilled with a craft knife or scissors, and you end up with a botched job and frayed edges. So let us deal with it instead, we have had over 15 years experience at this after all.

Choosing made to measure is a simple process and we’ve got plenty of guides to get you started, measuring for your perfect blinds. Check them out here.

2. They’re not fit for purpose

Every room in the home is different and has a different purpose, so your blinds should reflect that. There’s no point putting a fragile fabric into a messy setting like the bathroom, or having┬ávoiles in the bedroom if you like to sleep in past dawn. Knowing what you want from the room can help you make a wise choice.

And don’t worry, we’ve got guides for bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens to help too. Try our Splash roller blinds in your bathroom and a Blackout Lining for the bedroom.

3. They’re losing you money

Tying in with the number 2, if you haven’t got thermal blinds in the cold spots of the home, then you’re practically throwing money away. Whether it’s one of our pleated DuoLight or DuoShade blinds, or adding a thermal lining to your favourite design, they help to keep out the draughts and let you turn down the thermostat a few degrees. And that means you can save a few pennies on your bills.

4. You’re not keeping them clean

As with any other part of the house, it’s important to keep your blinds clean and looking spick and span. Don’t worry though, we try to make our blinds simple to clean and we even have a handy guide for just about any type of blind. There’s Venetian blinds, pleated blinds, romans, rollers, verticals and wooden blinds. Just click the type you have to see the cleaning guide.

5. They just don’t suit your room

Chances are then that you didn’t do your research. Unfortunately, almost every computer screen looks different. What looks crisp white on one may look a pale beige on another, so it’s always best to order a free sample before and see what it’s like in the flesh, especially if you’re the picky sort. And once you have your sample make sure you admire it in your room at different times of the day as its style can change from dawn through to dusk.

6. You don’t have any at all

So you’ve just moved into a new house and put up a bin liner or newspaper up at the windows as a temporary fixture. Skip a few months down the line and it’s still there. Why? It may be ‘doing a good enough job’ but that’s no way to treat your home. And what about the curb appeal? Head on over to Blinds 2go and find your perfect match now.n-enjoy-vision-natural-36-roller-blind-a
